KARYN
KUHL is the former singer/ songwriter/ guitarist for the critically
acclaimed psychedelic/punk/metal band SEXPOD.
SEXPOD was formed in the early 90's and released their first single
SPIN MY GROOVE / VENUS (Queenie Records) in '92 and an
EP HOME (Go-Kart Records) in '94. SEXPOD'S full-length recording
GODDESS BLUES (Slab/CMC/BMG) released in'97 was produced by
FRED MAHER (Matthew Sweet) and mixed by MICHAEL BARBIERO
(Soundgarden) and JOHN AGNELLO(Breeders, Patti Smith).
By the time GODDESS BLUES was released, SEXPOD was already
one of
downtown NYC's hottest bands. They later toured with rock legends JOAN JETT
and
IGGY POP. The bands' recordings and majestic live performances garnered
critical acclaim in such publications as the VILLAGE VOICE, BILLBOARD,
TIME OUT, THE STAR LEDGER and numerous others.
KARYN
KUHL decided to go solo in '99 and began performing new
material in NY venues with just guitar and vocals. After about a year of
solo shows KK put together her current band. Although KK's current
musical incarnation draws from the raw power and intensity of her
punk/metal roots, it is her hauntingly beautiful vocals and refined sense
of melody that are accentuated in her first solo recording LITTLE DEMON GIRL.
KARYN KUHL's transcendent live performances are held
together with
the solid and sensitive support of her new rhythm section featuring
TOM COSTAGLIOLA on drums and KURT RITTA on bass. ALICIA G's
lush guitar textures and backup vocals complete the live experience.
KARYN KUHL's forthcoming EP THE BEAUTIFUL GLOW,
produced by BARB MORRISON/CHARLES NEILAND (Rufus Wainright)
of SUPER BUDDHA PRODUCTIONS , is due out in Winter 2003.
Love , loss, mournful remembrance and transformation
are the lyrical themes
of THE BEAUTIFUL GLOW. KK's elecrifying vocals are complemented by spacious
instrumental arrangements. Layered in a lustrous array of acoustic and electronic
textures, THE BEAUTIFUL GLOW is at once an intimate and expansive aural
experience. The listener enters into a seductive dream wherein against a
background of loss and sorrow the beauty of transformation stands out.
